MWSC begins installation of two 13,000-tonnes water tanks in Male’

The Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced the installation of two new 13,000-tonne water tanks in Male’ City under efforts to increase the city’s water storage capacity.
According to MWSC, ground preparation and piling equipment setup have been completed, and test piling is currently underway in preparation for the main foundation works.
Once completed, the two tanks will provide a combined storage capacity of 26,000 tonnes, further enhancing water security for the growing population of the Greater Male’ region. MWSC’s Managing Director, Abdul Matheen Mohamed said the addition is equivalent to Male’ City’s current water storage capacity.
MWSC hopes to complete the installation of the new tanks as well as a 5,000 tonnes water plant in Hulhumale’ by next month.
Last year, MWSC installed a 10,000-tonne water storage system in Hulhumale’, the largest water tank installed in the Maldives to date, increasing Hulhumale’s water storage capacity to 22,600 tonnes. In June last year, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant that can produce up to 1,000 tonnes of water was established.
