Gov’t aims to begin Giraavaru Falhu land handover within three weeks

Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said the government will prioritise the handover of land plots from Giraavaru Falhu, with the process expected to begin within three weeks.
Dredging at Giraavaru Falhu began in late January and is progressing rapidly. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inspected the progress of the project on 28 March, accompanied by Minister Muththalib and other senior government officials.
Speaking to the media at the site, Minister Muththalib said that when the current administration assumed office, Giraavaru Falhu had already been reclaimed to some extent. He noted that the former government had allocated approximately 5,000 plots from the area before the completion of the land reclamation.
The minister said the current government has since revised the land use plan for neighbouring Gulhifalhu, reallocating 1,100 Giraavaru Falhu plots to an area originally designated for port development in Gulhifalhu. According to the minister, the original land use plan for Giraavaru Falhu was not suitable for urban development due to the high number of plots allocated. As a result, additional land is now being reclaimed to address the shortage of space.
The minister added that once the reclamation is completed, land surveying, registration and handover will begin immediately. The development of water and sewerage systems, as well as electricity networks and road development, will begin at the earliest, he assured.
