Government has begun the second phase of the 'Haalu Kihineh?' programme from the southernmost Atoll of Addu City.
The initiative launched in May last year involves visiting residents across all islands in the Maldives to assess their well-being, identify individuals in need, and provide necessary services.
Officials will visit every household in Addu City, the Ministry of Social and Family Development after the programme kicked-off on Thursday.
The first phase of the programme was launched in October last year. Addu is the second most populous city in the country next to the capital Male’.
According to the latest census data, the population of Addu City has crossed 20,000.
Before the programme was kicked-off, Ministry officials had met with the Addu City Council to discuss the implementation of the programme. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Social and Family Development, Mariyam Lahfa and Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar.
The Addu City Council along with the Women's Development Committee (WDC) have assured full cooperation to the Ministry in conducting the programme.
The "Haalu Kihineh?" programme initially began in Hulhumale'. In alignment with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's vision of fostering a compassionate society, the programme aims to strengthen relationships and build trust between the government and the citizens.
The initiative involves visiting residents across all islands in the Maldives to assess their well-being, identify individuals in need, and provide necessary services.
The Ministry of Social and Family Development is working closely with public service institutions, relevant agencies, atoll councils, local island councils, and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), to conduct the programme. The goal is to visit every household in the Maldives within a year to identify individuals requiring special assistance from the state.
