Bank of Maldives (BML) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to provide MVR 3.5 million for the construction of an oncology ward.
The MoU was signed by in-charge and Acting MD Aishath Nooradheen on behalf of the bank. CEO of IGMH Ibrahim Saleem signed the agreement on behalf of the hospital.

Speaking at the ceremony, BML's Acting Managing Director Aishath Nooradheen expressed hope that the ward with the assistance of the funds will solve the difficulties faced by cancer patients. She also expressed that the ward will further develop and expand health services.
IGMH CEO Ibrahim Saleem thanked BML for its assistance. He emphasized that the establishment of the ward would make it easier for those seeking treatment.
BML has provided financial assistance as part of their initiative to establish long term benefits to the community in celebration of its 40th anniversary.
The Maldives has a large cancer population. More than 100 people died of the disease in the Maldives in 2020 alone. Currently, patients are admitted in the general ward for cancer treatment when necessary.
