The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has announced a call for proposals to operate the shelter section of the Olhu Hiya Cat Facility in Hulhumale Phase 2 for a one-year period.
As per the Ministry’s announcement, an information session for interested parties will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Ministry’s office on the 7th floor of Velaanaage. The deadline for submitting proposals is set for Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 13:00. The Ministry noted that if any government holiday falls within the submission window, the deadline will be extended accordingly.
Olhu Hiya, which officially opened in January this year, was established as a dedicated center for cat care and treatment. Despite its opening, the number of cats currently housed at the facility remains below 50, prompting public concern over the slow intake process. Interested parties can obtain further details by contacting the Ministry at 3339282 or 3339279.
