State Revenue Reaches MVR 14.9 Billion as of May 22, Marking 5.6% Year-on-Year Increase

The Ministry of Finance has reported that the Maldivian state has received MVR 14.9 billion in total revenue and grants as of May 22, reflecting a 5.6 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
According to the ministry's latest financial statistics, tax revenue accounted for MVR 11.6 billion—constituting 77.8 percent of the total revenue collected so far this year. The growth in revenue includes both tax and non-tax income.
The figures indicate that 37.3 percent of the total revenue and grants projected in the 2025 state budget, as approved by Parliament, has been realized by this point in the year. In comparison, 28.0 percent of the year’s estimated total expenditure has been recorded by the same date.
The Ministry's Weekly Fiscal Development Report further reveals that the state has spent MVR 13.7 billion to date—representing a 17.9 percent decline in expenditure compared to the same period last year.
This decrease in expenditure is reflected in both recurrent and capital spending. Recurrent expenditure has fallen by 3.8 percent, while capital expenditure has recorded a more significant drop of 64.2 percent.
These figures suggest tighter fiscal management and a notable reduction in government spending, particularly in capital projects.
