Maldives Nears Two Million Visitors with 9.9 Percent Tourism Growth

The Maldives has welcomed a staggering 1,923,496 tourists so far this year, marking a robust 9.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment confirmed this significant surge as of the 15 November, highlighting the enduring appeal of the island nation as a premier tourist destination.
This year's figure stands impressively against the 1,750,249 visitors recorded in the corresponding period last year, underscoring the consistent upward trajectory in the nation's vital tourism sector. On average, the Maldives is experiencing 6,437 tourist arrivals daily.
Driving this growth are key international markets, with China emerging as the leading source, contributing 303,035 tourists. Russia followed closely with 242,542 visitors, while the United Kingdom (171,213), Germany (144,278), and Italy (125,582) rounded out the top five, demonstrating a healthy mix of global appeal.
The preference for luxury remains evident, with the majority of tourists, 73.7 percent, opting for resort stays. Guest houses attracted 21.5 percent of visitors, while hotels accounted for 2.6 percent of the accommodation choices.
To cater to this growing demand, the Maldives currently boasts 1,295 operational tourist accomodations, collectively offering a substantial bed capacity of 66,235. This includes 44,247 resort beds, 16,068 beds in guest houses, 3,322 beds brought into operation by safaris, and 2,598 beds in hotels, ensuring diverse lodging options for all types of travelers.
