A Maldivian youth who allegedly assaulted a waiter from Lemongrass Restaurant in Male’ has been remanded in custody.
Criminal Court ordered the 10-day remand of the 22-year-old Maldivian male on Wednesday.
The remand order, citing the Investigation Officer (IO), said the youth was arrested for assaulting a waiter from Lemongrass Restaurant. Sufficient evidence had been submitted to warrant suspicions that he committed the crime, including report from police officers who attended the crime scene, and the criminal record of the suspect.
According to the IO, the suspect has a prior record in cases related to violence, with his latest arrest in such a case in 2022.
The suspect’s lawyer pressed for his release from custody, subject to court-mandated conditions, as he is accused of a minor crime. However, the Court rejected the argument, remanding him in custody.
