Fayyaz alleges three WAMCO employees were transferred for supporting MDP council candidates

Three employees of the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) have allegedly been transferred to other islands for supporting candidates contesting the upcoming local council elections on the MDP ticket.
Former MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail made the allegation in a post on X, stating that the government had taken action against three WAMCO staff members for appearing in a photo with him during a visit to Thinadhoo City.
According to Fayyaz, Nabith Mohamed, Mohamed Naif, and Mohamed Solih Ahmed, who were working at WAMCO in Thinadhoo City, were transferred to Kulhudhuffushi City and Ihavandhoo shortly after the photo was taken. The picture also included Thinadhoo Mayor Saud Ali.
Fayyaz further claimed that many employees working in state‑owned enterprises are being threatened with job consequences if they do not support the government in the April 4 council elections. He wrote that employees of state companies have the right to participate in political activities and express their views.
He also accused the government of violating civil and political rights, urging voters to “say no” in the council elections.
It is notable that Abdul Kareem Abdullah, the half‑brother of ruling PNC Chairman and Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah, is contesting independently for the Fonadhoo constituency. His two sons were recently dismissed from government jobs after he decided to run for Fonadhoo Council President.
