The Maldives has set a new record for the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day, marking the third time the record has been broken this month.
The first record of the year was set on February 1. It was surpassed a week later on February 8, when 10,462 tourists arrived, exceeding the previous peak of 10,253.
The latest record was set on Saturday, when 11,136 tourists arrived in the country, according to the Tourism Ministry.
As of Saturday, total arrivals for the year had reached 349,990, an increase of 7.6 percent compared to the same period last year. On average, 7,778 tourists have been visiting the Maldives daily.
China remains the top source market with 49,704 arrivals so far this year, followed by Russia with 40,141 tourists. Italy ranked third with 34,320 arrivals.
Tourism Ministry statistics show that the majority of tourists stayed at resorts, while more than 94,000 visitors chose guesthouses as of Saturday.
