Deputy Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Ameen Ibrahim has said that the nation should be freed from all oppression as the country celebrates the Golden Jubilee year of Independence.
Speaking at the rally held last night at the Alimas Carnival area, Ameen said that the fight for justice and independence is obligatory upon every Maldivian. He said that sacrifices should be made for this cause.
“The need for this alone is enough to show the level of oppression perpetrated by the state against the people. Therefore this situation needs to be changed,” he said.
Ameen questioned the reason why the leaders betrayed the nation during the attack of the Portuguese and the “Holhi” on Maldives.
He said that the reason for every such treason and betrayal against the nation is the lack of empathy for the people. He said that they failed to feel the pulse of the people.
Ameen noted that some former leaders had done such works, with the current Constitution being one of them. Ameen said that the current works does not represent a specific organisation or an ideology. Hence he had called on all citizens to stand against the brutality of the government.
