He said that the Republic Day brings the memories of the leaders of Maldives who changed the sultanate to a republican government including the pioneer of the republican, the first President of Maldives, Mohamed Ameen and the second President of Maldives, Ibrahim Nasir.
“While we remained under the wings of a second republican leadership for almost half-a-century, the customs of that leadership - which has been instilled in the citizens - are progressing and evolving at a rapid and proud rate,” he said.
He said that the implementation of the Green Constitution on 7th August 2008 strengthened the guidelines of multi-party political activity, the rights of the people, demarcated the three powers of state.
Gasim added that people can make laws and guidelines using fancy names, sentences and colors to awe the population, or devise ground-breaking plans and massive projects to develop the country; but it would mean little or nothing if it doesn't contribute to the noble cause of putting the welfare of the country and its citizens as the up most priority.
He also called to lay aside any rooms differentiation and view all citizens as equals to acknowledge the true bliss of Republic Day.
