The office of the former President Mohamed Nasheed has released a statement saying Foreign Minister’s statement to the media on Tuesday regarding the arrest of President Nasheed is based on false allegations.
On the statement، the former President’s office falsified Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon stating “Nasheed was presented before a judge within 24 hours as per the normal legal procedure”، and said Nasheed was brought to a court hearing 26 hours after his was made.
“Abstaining from referring to the fact that، pressing charges، arresting and remand hearing was executed within a short 26 hour period، the court continued the hearing without granting legal counsel for Nasheed.”
Ex-President’s office highlighted the act of the court clearly violates the fundamental right of an accused to seek legal counsel during a court proceeding.
In addition، the officer of President Nasheed said the former President Nasheed was denied from medical attention even after he pleaded in the court that ‘he needs to consult to a doctor’، from the injuries he received from the ‘brutal escort by the Police’.
