Villa College has marked the one-year anniversary of the start of University of the West of England (UWE) programs in the college.
Three professors of UWE, state dignitaries, heads of state institutions and companies attended the special ceremony held to mark the occasion.
UWE was felicitated for their assistance granted to students of their programs conducted in the college.
Over 700 students are currently studying in seven programs, with the student body coming from Finance Ministry, MIRA, MACL, STO, Dhiraagu and Ooredoo.
Speaking in the ceremony, Villa College Rector Anwar said Villa College had begun discussions with UWE in 2013. He said when the programs were begun in 2015, the programs were made affordable to all students.
“Villa College had always aimed to provide a high quality education at an affordable cost at international standards. The UWE programs are run in this vein as well,” he said.
Dr. Anwar noted that UWE programs were run in the QI campus and five other campuses.
Professor Fiona Jordan of UWE said that they did not believe the endeavor could have been this successful at the onset of discussions. She noted that the number of students studying the programs was a testament to the successful nature of the endeavor and assured the University will back the College.
