Maldives main bank warns against scams
The Maldives’ main bank issued a warning regarding recent scams targeting its customers late Friday. The Bank of Maldives Limited (BML) warned in a statement of swindlers masquerading as official institutions to deceive bank customers into divulging details of their debit and credit cards via phone calls, SMS, emails and illegitimate websites. BML warned such cons are common worldwide and cases have come into light in the Maldives as well. The bank warned their customers to be constantly vigilant for such scams despite the low rate of successful frauds in the Maldives, and cautioned never to reveal information of their accounts, cards and PIN numbers to unknown persons. “We have also received reports of calls made in our name as well as other institutions. We declare for your information that the Bank of Maldives will not request such information from its customers via e-mails, SMS and phone calls. We urge customers to beware of such frauds,” read the statement. The bank also requested customers to call their customer service hotline 3330200 for further inquiries regarding fraud calls.
