PPM members as well as those associated with the party have been calling out for the rally – which is to start at 4:00 pm from Artificial Beach in the capital, Male’ – via social media since Wednesday night. The rally titled “Ginavany, givanavy” (roughly translated to mean ‘gathering numbers, gathering numbers’) is proclaimed to be organized by “patriotic youths.” Key member of President Abdulla Yameen’s administration – Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb – described the protests being held by President Nasheed and Qasim Ibrahim as “destroying” the countries future, and has also called out for youths who support President Yameen to join in on the rally, via a tweet he sent out Thursday morning. “All Youth who Support President Yameen , pls come to Artificial beach Today at 4 pm,To Protest Against Nasheed & Gasim, destroying our future,” tweeted Minister Adeeb. PPM has not officially commented on the rally, but a senior PPM official informed Haveeru that it was a rally initiated by the party and some young well-wishers of the party. The “patriotic youths” are set to rally after week long protests by MDP and JP who have joined forces against “the many violations against Constitution by the government.” MDP and JP had been gathering on the streets every night in Chandhanee Magu, near Dhiraagu calling out for resignation of President Yameen. Two people were arrested after clashes with police during the protest, Wednesday night. Meanwhile, MDP/JP is preparing for a large rally to be held on the streets of the capital on February 27; while government coalition is preparing for a special gathering themselves, on February 26.
