The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has urged all to stop the obstructions aimed at presidential candidates.
The commission in a statement released on Wednesday, appealed on the general public and political parties to refrain from carrying out acts that disgrace candidates and running mates who work to garner support as well as refrain from carrying out actions that spread enmity and civil unrest.
Moreover, the commission also called on the public to respect the guidelines and laws in order to ensure that campaign activities are conducted in peace and to stop the uncalled-for obstruction of candidates.
The opposition coalition's presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was attacked in Hulhumale’ on Tuesday evening as part of his door-to-door campaign. Attackers had also thrown oil-filled packets at his campaign team.
Many including Home Minister Affairs Azleen Ahmed and opposition political parties have condemned the heinous attacks.
