"Arresting Abdulla Gaazy was a grave mistake": Prez. Nasheed

Arresting Chief Judge of the Criminal Court، Abdulla Mohamed (Abdulla Gaazy) was a grave mistake، said former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Speaking with the press after returning from attending Party Leaders’ Conference of International Democrat Union in South Korea، President Nasheed said that Abdulla Mohamed (Abdulla Gaazy) was arrested in his Administration in 2011 after Ministry of Defence advised that a decision of Abdulla Mohamed was a threat to the security of the nation.
“Abdulla Mohamed’s decision was opinionated as a threat to the national security by the ministerial level، specially Ministry of Defence during my administration. That [arresting Abdulla Gaazee] was a serious mistake.” President Nasheed said.
President Nasheed said the case of Thinadhoo Arson being sent to court for re-prosecution، after the case was withdrawn from the Criminal Court on Saturday، is disrespectful to the court and unjust to the law.
Further، President Nasheed said that it is not wise for Politicians to react in response to the decisions of Judge Abdulla Mohamed، and that he is a person to decide something after serious thinking.
“I want to note that Chief Judge of Criminal Court thinks deeply regarding the matters. It is not wise for Politicians to take quick actions in response to his decisions. He has withdrawn the case. PG Office to sent it back to the court for re-prosecution is an act of disrespect to the court.” President Nasheed said.
As state lawyer failed to show up for the court proceeding on Saturday of  Thinadhoo Arson Case Trial، the case was withdrawn from the Criminal Court، and all the detainees were released.
Total of 89 were accused of the arson on Government buildings in Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo on 8th February 2012، following the resignation of former President Mohamed Nasheed on 7th February 2012.
