Condemning the statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon at the General Debate of the Seventieth Session of the UN General Assembly، the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that ‘she mocked the UN’.
Foreign Minister، in her statement، has said that ‘UN must be reformed’. She noted that every problem can، and should be looked at، from every angle. And she raised the questions if ‘we have served “we the people” well’، while the UN celebrates its 70th anniversary.
In a statement issued last night، MDP said that Minister’s calling for the reform of UN is a mockery to the organization.
Furthermore، MDP noted that it is not Maldives’ foreign policy to not accept and respect the opinions and rulings of the UN and it’s bodies، and to go beyond the boundaries set under UN Charter’s framework. MDP said this would expose Maldives to threats.
In addition، MDP highlighted that calling for UN’s reform is a mockery and against the foreign policies in the Maldives، and will not benefit Maldives in any way.
