Ibrahim Nasir International Airport has been renamed to Velana International Airport. The airport was officially renamed at a ceremony held at the airport tonight, by President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.
The first flight to land at the airport after the name change was Maldivian Q2701. The plane was given a water salute. Economic Minister, Tourism Minister and senior officials of the airport attended the ceremony.
Velana International Airport was first called Hulhule’ airport and was later changed to Male’ International Airport in 1981. It was changed to Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in 2011.
