Will seek Nasheed’s opinion prior to surgery: Husham

Department of Correctional Services has stated that the Department will seek former President Mohamed Nasheed’s opinion prior to his surgery on his spine.
Speaking to Raajjemv, Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham said that they will be inquiring on Nasheed’s opinion regarding where the surgery will take place in. The state had said that the operation can be made from the country, while Nasheed’s lawyers insist that the operation can only be carried out abroad. The lawyers noted that the medical reports had said that the operation of that nature cannot be carried out locally.
Husham added that ADK Hospital had said that there were two methods in which the operation can be carried out, either by smashing or drilling. He said that the smashing method was the one that was practiced commonly in the country, even though both methods can be used.
Husham said that no decision had been taken on where Nasheed’s operation will be taken, but will seek his opinion prior to making a decision.
Husham reported that Dr. Yoosuf Shan had recommended that the method of operation should be at the surgeon’s choosing. He further said that they were checking whether ADK can conduct this operation and will finalize a decision after that.
