Financial statistics from the Ministry of Finance reveal that deposits into the Sovereign Development Fund (SDF) have increased significantly this year, rising 45.6% compared to the same period in 2023.
According to the Weekly Fiscal Development Report published on June 19, MVR 937 million has been deposited into the SDF so far this year, compared to MVR 643.6 million during the corresponding period last year.
While Aasandha health insurance expenses rose slightly by 1.4%, medical welfare costs saw a sharp decline of 35.2%. The report also shows a notable rise in service supply expenditures, council grants, and a significant 169.5% increase in debt service payments.
As of last week, capital expenditure from the state budget reached MVR 1.6 billion, with MVR 1.4 billion spent on infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, and airports, representing 13% of the approved budget for these projects.
