President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that food safety is the bedrock of both public health and economic resilience.
In a post shared on his official X account to commemorate World Food Safety Day, he reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening national food safety standards.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Food Safety: Science in Action,” the President underscored the vital role of scientific research and evidence-based practices in tackling foodborne illnesses, protecting public well-being, and boosting the national economy.
He also reiterated the Government’s dedication to ensuring that all food consumed by the public is safe, nutritious, and trustworthy, while urging collective action at every level to support the country’s food safety agenda.
In a separate message issued on the same day, the President highlighted the enactment of the Food Safety Act in 2024 as a key milestone in enhancing food safety across the Maldives. The law significantly expanded the responsibilities of the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), enabling it to take a leading role in maintaining the integrity of the national food system.
The President further commended the MFDA’s “Mukabba” social media campaign, describing it as an innovative and forward-thinking public engagement effort. He also acknowledged the ongoing advocacy initiatives directed at policymakers and food businesses, which have helped foster greater accountability and awareness within the national food landscape.
In conclusion, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed the Government’s ongoing commitment to advancing food safety and contributing meaningfully to global efforts aimed at protecting the health and well-being of citizens.
