Maldives and Malta Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties During Ministerial Visit

The Maldives and Malta have engaged in high-level talks to enhance cooperation in several key sectors, including tourism, education, environment, and trade.
The discussions took place during Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel’s official visit to Malta, where he met with Maltese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Dr. Ian Borg. The meeting was held at the Deputy Prime Minister’s office.
Both sides acknowledged the similarities shared by the two island nations and expressed commitment to building a stronger bilateral relationship. Discussions focused on environmental cooperation—particularly transitioning to renewable energy—expanding business opportunities, and boosting foreign investment.
The two countries also explored increasing collaboration in higher education, tourism, and cultural exchange to foster stronger people-to-people connections.
As part of his visit, Minister Dr. Khaleel is also scheduled to meet with other members of the Maltese cabinet.
