President Muizzu urges citizens to exercise right to vote

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated that voting is a fundamental, constitutional right, and encouraged all citizens to cast their votes.
He stated this after casting his vote for the ongoing Local Council, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections and public referendum on merging presidential and parliamentary elections.
Polling will take place from 0800 hrs to 1600hrs, with 588 polling stations established nationwide. Each voter will be given three ballot papers, each to be placed into separate, designated ballot boxes. The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has organised arrangements to facilitate voting.
In this election, 294,876 individuals are eligible to vote, comprising of 144,506 women and 150,370 men. In the Local Council elections, 1,592 candidates are competing for seats, while 1,386 are competing for WDC elections.
