Dr Aminath Zahir Becomes First Maldivian to Earn PhD in Dhivehi Language

Dr Aminath Zahir has made history by becoming the first person to earn a PhD in Dhivehi Language.
Dr Aminath received her Doctoral degree in Dhivehi from the Maldives National University (MNU). Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim extended his congratulations to Dr Aminath on her achievement.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at MNU, the Minister described Aminath’s achievement as a significant milestone for the preservation and advancement of the Dhivehi language, culture and heritage. He also congratulated the university’s officials, faculty and students for their collective contribution to the achievement.
Dr Aminath completed her degree in Dhivehi Language in 2009, and later obtained a Master’s in Language and Culture. She began her PhD studies in Dhivehi Language in 2019.
Dr Aminath Zahir is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Arts at MNU.
