Farhad Fikury Appointed Acting Head of Maldives Police

Following the resignation of Police Commissioner Ali Shujau tonight, Deputy Commissioner Farhad Fikury has been temporarily appointed to lead the Maldives Police Service.
Home Minister Ali Ihsan confirmed that under the Police Act, Deputy Commissioner Farhad will assume the responsibilities of the Commissioner until a formal appointment is made. Farhad’s appointment comes after Shujau's decision to step down, reportedly to dedicate more time to family responsibilities.
Shujau's resignation follows mounting public pressure after a 21-year-old woman, Yumnu, fell from the ninth floor of a building, raising serious concerns over the police's handling of the case.
The government has not yet disclosed the process for appointing a permanent Police Commissioner.
