Parliament Opens Applications for Public Member of the Judicial Service Commission

The Parliament of the Maldives has opened applications for the position of public member on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). The deadline for submission is August 3, 2025.
Applicants must be Maldivian citizens aged 30 or older. Eligibility criteria require that candidates must not have been convicted of a Hadd offence under Islamic Sharia, nor any crime involving fraud or bribery. In addition, applicants must not hold any elected political office, nor be members of or active participants in any political party.
The position is currently held by Dr. Aminath Ummulkulsum, whose term as Parliament-appointed public member will conclude in August 2025.
The public member is appointed through a majority vote of MPs present at a parliamentary sitting, under the procedures of the People’s Majlis.
