Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla has arrived in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to participate in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Parliament Secretariat said Saturday.
The Speaker’s delegation includes Minority Leader Ibrahim Nazil and lawmakers Asma Rasheed, Dr Anara Naeem, Abdulla Rifau and Hussain Imran Latheef.
The 150th Assembly of the IPU is being held from 5 to 9 April.
The IPU is a global organisation of national parliaments. The IPU was established in 1989. The Parliament passed a resolution on November 4, 2004, to become a member of the union. Guidelines to establish Maldivian branches of the IPU were approved on June 6, 2006.
