The Parliament has approved the appointment of resident and non-resident Ambassadors to Jordan, Palestine and Japan.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu nominated Dr Hala Hameed as the non-resident Maldivian Ambassador to Jordan. Dr Hala, who has extensive experience in foreign service, currently serves as the Bilateral Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her appointment was approved with 63 votes in favour.
The President nominated Dr Ibrahim Zuhuree as the non-resident Maldivian Ambassador to Palestine. Also experienced in foreign service, he is currently the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His appointment was approved with 62 votes in favour.
Former Cabinet Minister Ahmed Mahloof was nominated for appointment as the Resident Ambassador to Japan. A seasoned politician, Mahloof began his career under former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s now-defunct Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP). He later joined the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and served as the Minister of Youth and Sports in the previous administration. He left the MDP and recently joined the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) at a special rally held on 14 November. His appointment as Resident Ambassador was approved by a vote of 60 members.
