The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO) have held discussions aimed at strengthening the electrical grid in Hulhumale' Phase II and identifying a long-term solution to recurring power issues.
This follows a prolonged outage yesterday that affected several residential towers in Phase II, including the Hiyaa and Vinares developments.
During a meeting between senior management from STELCO and HDC, both parties considered measures to minimise downtime in the event of network failures. STELCO emphasised the importance of expediting the implementation of the ‘SCADA’ system in Phase II, noting that once operational, it will significantly improve the speed and efficiency of fault detection and resolution.
The discussions also focused on accelerating repairs to the main cable that malfunctioned yesterday. In addition, STELCO urged HDC to facilitate the energising of additional cables previously installed by the Phase II network contractor, so they can be brought into service as soon as possible.
According to STELCO, once these additional cables are energised, the time required to restore power following a main cable failure will be substantially reduced. The company has assured that these initiatives will provide a lasting solution to the city’s power challenges.
