Resort rent slice not compensation to minimum wage dent: Nasheed

Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed attests that the state proposed bill of reducing resort rent is not aimed at remedying the impact faced by the minimum wage implementation.
The proposed bill aims to slice rent values from several tourist resort properties. The state claims that the reason for the preposition was to compensate the impact faced by the economy owing to the minimum wage.
Meanwhile, several members who deliberated over the bill voiced their individual and collective concerns.
Many coincided on the impact not being exclusive to tourism sector, while some of the MPs lambasted the move claiming it was a pretext to provide "subsidy" for the rich and wealthy.
Several opposition members as well as ruling party members voiced their concern over state's attempt of linking the bill with minimum wage's economic impact.
According to Nasheed, the bill aims to provide categories for land rates across various areas of the country.
