Barge runs aground off coast of Thulhaadhoo, blocking traffic

The barge which ran aground off the coast of B. Thulhaadhoo last Sunday remains stuck, bringing marine traffic in and out of the island to a standstill.
President of Thulhaadhoo Council, Ahmed Rasheed reported the MTCC barge was carrying construction material to build the outer seawall on the island when it ran aground.
He said the island was facing huge difficulty as the incident had brought marine traffic in and out of the country to a standstill.
“There’s only one ship which transports staple products to the island. But the ship is now stuck here, unable to travel to Male’. We are ow taking inventory of the staple products available here,” said Ahmed Rasheed.
He said the crew members and MTCC staff at the island were working on rescuing the barge without luck.
“I have reported this to all relevant authorities. But I haven’t received a reply from anyone yet,” said Ahmed Rasheed.
He said the Council had also asked for assistance from MTCC as additional resources were needed to rescue the barge.
