International cargo shipping to Addu, Thinadhoo

The President’s Office has announced plans to begin international cargo shipping to the ports of Addu City and G. Dh. Thinadhoo in the south.
President’s Office said that scheduled shipping was not carried out to the two regional ports previously. Addu City had an international port while Thinadhoo had a domestic port which meant that the lack of international shipping to Addu City had left the port of Thinadhoo without international cargo as well.
Recently, the government launched cargo shipping operations between India and Kulhudhuffushi City in the north as well. The President’s Office said that the service in Thinadhoo and Addu would be similar to the service in Kulhudhuffushi.
Scheduled cargo trips are to be made every 20 days. The cargo boats will travel from Tuticorin to Addu City to Thinadhoo and back to Tuticorin.
The government predicts that the service will assist in the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the region and that the service would bring a lot of conveniences and save a lot of costs for cargo shipping. Real estate prices for warehouse purposes were set to increase with the beginning of the service, which will also create a lot of new jobs in the region.
State Trading Organization (STO) is set to commence service of 3,700 metric tons of cargo boat in the region. The boat will carry perishable goods as well as construction materials. The service will be open to any and everyone.
