101,909 tourists visit Maldives in September

Latest economic review issued by central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) shows 101,909 tourists visited Maldives during the month of September.
The number is a 7 percent increase compared to the number of tourist arrivals in September, 2015.
MMA attributed the overall increase in number of tourist arrivals to increase in tourists from Europe and Middle East who visited Maldives in September.
The statistics show a drop in number of tourist arrivals from China – which is Maldives’ biggest market.
And despite the rise in tourist arrivals compared to the same period in 2015, it is a 9 percent drop from the number of tourists who visited Maldives in August.
Looking into the time spent by tourists who visit Maldives, each tourist spent an average of 5.5 days in Maldives in September, 2015. But tourists stayed an average of 3.5 days in Maldives in September, 2016.
The total number of nights spent by tourists in Maldives in September, however, increased by 2 percent, pushing occupancy rate of tourist resorts to 64 percent.
