Nasheed refuses to enter High Court as court rejects request for an open hearing

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has yesterday refused to enter High Court for the first hearing of his appeal against the Criminal Court order to arrest him.
Miadhu Daily understands that the former President refused to enter because the court rejected his request for an open hearing.
The High Court dismissed the appeal of Nasheed as he refused to enter the court for the hearing.
Nasheed’s legal team state that open hearing is a right granted by the constitution and the constitution clearly mentions when such hearings can be refused.
Nasheed's legal team requested to hold an open and public hearing before the hearing was scheduled for 2 pm yesterday. However, only members of Nasheed's legal team and family were allowed inside the courtroom.
High Court stated that that they hold the authority to carry out a closed hearing, even if the legal team requests for an open one.
