Ex-Minister Nazim returns home; taken back to prison

Former Minister of Defense and National Security، Colonel Rtd. Mohamed Nazim، who has been sentenced to 11 years in prison، was escorted from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport to the prison، upon arrival from a medical trip to Singapore.
Ex-Minister Nazim arrived in INI Airport today، at 11:50 from Singapore Airlines. Upon his arrival، Immigration checked as per routine and handed him over to Maldives Correctional Service. Nazim’s family were with him when he arrived.
An official at MCS informed Nazim has been taken back to Kaafu atoll Hinmafushi “Asseyri” Prison.
The former defense chief departed to Singapore on 10 April for medical reasons. Although he was given 45 years، MCS notified him to return back as they learned the Nazim’s medical needs were fulfilled.
The Criminal Court on 26 March sentenced Nazim to 11 years in prison for possessing dangerous weaponry and allegedly for plotting against the incumbent government.
Following the police raid to his private residence on January 18، Nazim was dismissed as the minister. The police found dangerous weaponry and a pen drive containing a possible plot threatening national security، from the raid to Nazim’s apartment.
