Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim departed on an official visit to Alif Dhaal atoll early Thursday as the representative of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
According to an official of the Environment Ministry, the minster will visit the residents of all inhabited islands of the atoll throughout the weekend.
Minister Thoriq is currently in Hangnaameedhoo island. He is scheduled to visit two more islands on Thursday.
The official stated that as the president’s representative, the minister will personally gather public concerns and opinions from island councils, government institutions and island residents, and work to seek solutions for their issues.
Previously, Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Munawar had visited all the islands of Vaavu atoll while Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the islands of Haa Dhaal atoll last week on behalf of the president.
Residents of some islands have held protests against the government during the ministers’ visits.
