The family of jailed former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim has requested authorities to review his case again over the letter submitted by jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb regarding Nazim’s conviction.
In his letter to the Supreme Court, Adheeb has claimed that Nazim, who is sentenced to eleven years in jail for weapons’ possession, was not aware of the pistol and three bullets which were found in his residence and had subsequently landed him in jail. The letter was sent to the court a day before the government closed its institutions for the Eid al-Fitr holidays at the end of Ramadan.
Adheeb claims that he knows the truth behind the pistol along with three bullets found in Nazim’s house of which, he assured Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Nazim has no knowledge.
Claiming to be aware of the reasons behind the incident, the perpetrators and others involved in it, Adheeb proclaimed that he is prepared to testify in court and expose the whole truth to the public. Reiterating that the pistol and bullets did not belong to Nazim, he further claimed that he can prove that the former defence minister was unaware of the plot.
The family of Nazim made the request at Supreme Court and Prosecutor General’s Office.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Nazim’s younger brother Adam Azim said that though the request was made on July 2, none of the authorities has responded to it yet.
