President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the additional classroom building under construction for AA. Himandhoo School will be completed and ready for use at the start of the new academic year. He gave this assurance while meeting residents of Himandhoo today, as part of his tour of the inhabited islands of Alifu Alifu Atoll.
During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu acknowledged the school’s space constraints and the prolonged delay in completing the new building. He assured that all remaining works would be expedited to ensure the classrooms are available for students when the academic year begins.
The President also noted that the new extension of the Himandhoo Health Centre officially opened today. He further pledged to strengthen healthcare by enhancing laboratory services, thereby reducing the need for residents to travel to neighbouring islands for tests and treatment.
Addressing coastal erosion, President Dr Muizzu said a contractor would soon be appointed to implement protection works, and confirmed that the harbour channel issue would be resolved alongside the project.
Highlighting the nationwide programme to develop handball courts over the next two years, he announced that a handball court and an indoor gym will be developed in Himandhoo this year. Moreover, as part of his visit, the President officially inaugurated the island’s new water and sewerage system.
President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to visit all inhabited islands of Alifu Alifu Atoll during this tour, meeting with Island Councils and Women’s Development Committees to discuss development needs and community priorities.
