Three Appointments Cleared for Civil Service Commission

The Parliament has formally endorsed three new appointments to the Civil Service Commission, approving nominations submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to replace members whose terms are nearing expiration.
The commission, which comprises five members and oversees the administration of the country’s civil service, is set to undergo partial reconstitution. The tenures of President Mohamed Nasih and members Mohamed Farshath and Fathimath Shareef are scheduled to conclude on 3 September, marking the end of their five-year terms.
Under Maldivian law, the president is required to nominate replacements when the term of a member of an independent institution expires. These nominations are typically drawn from a public application process, with candidates selected based on statutory qualifications and demonstrated merit.
To address the forthcoming vacancies, President Muizzu submitted six names to parliament for consideration. The Committee on Independent Institutions conducted a formal evaluation of the nominees, awarding scores above 75 percent to three candidates: Dr Dheeba Moosa, Dr Hussain Faiz, and Mohamed Nasih.
All three candidates were subsequently approved during an extraordinary sitting of parliament held on Wednesday. Dr Dheeba Moosa received 60 votes, Dr Hussain Faiz secured 54, and Mohamed Nasih was backed by 52 members.
Each member of the Civil Service Commission serves a five-year term. Prior to the new appointments taking effect, the commission comprises President Mohamed Nasih, Vice President Mohamed Mujthaz, and members Mohamed Farshath, Fathimath Shareef, and Fathimath Habeeba.
