The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) has secured two prestigious certifications from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Among them is the ISO 21001 certification, making IUM the first university in the country to receive this global recognition for educational institutions.
The certifications, ISO 9001 and ISO 21001, underscore the university's commitment to quality and institutional excellence. ISO 9001, a globally recognised standard, reinforces consistency in service delivery, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. ISO 21001, tailored specifically for educational organisations, promotes transparency, inclusivity, and student-centred learning while aligning institutional practices with international academic standards.
The recognition stands as a defining moment for IUM, a sentiment echoed by Vice Chancellor Dr Ali Zahir, who described it as a significant milestone for the university. "The attainment of ISO 21001 certification is a particularly momentous achievement, underscoring the fact that IUM is the first university in the Maldives to meet this international standard for higher education institutions," said Zahir. "This milestone is a source of pride for everyone associated with the university."
Zahir highlighted the extensive efforts behind this achievement, underscoring the university's dedication to establishing internationally recognised benchmarks. "This achievement is the culmination of ongoing efforts driven by the vision of implementing international standards since assuming leadership of the university's administration," he stated.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), an independent, non-governmental entity, has been instrumental in developing and publishing global standards since its official inception on 23 February 1947. With over 25,000 standards introduced across industries such as technology, manufacturing, and business, ISO plays a vital role in shaping international regulations. Its framework is supported by more than 800 technical committees and subcommittees, ensuring the integrity and relevance of its standards.
