A forensic team from the Maldives Police Service entered the office of Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) on Wednesday evening.
The exact reason for the police raid is yet to be officially disclosed.
According to staff members of the Commission, the police took photographs of several parts of the Broadcasting Commission premises and collected information related to the commission's servers. Police went to the office on suspicion of deliberate server disruption, some employees said.
Police entered the Broadcasting Commission (BCC) while some employees of Broadcom went home on strike earlier the same day, stating the commission's members were treating them unfairly.
The Broadcom members had also suspended the commission’s Secretary General, Mariyam Zeeniya, for three days from Tuesday. She was suspended for failing to cooperate in implementing the decisions of the Commission and disrespecting the Commission members, it has been reported.
A petition has been submitted to the Parliament signed by a large number of employees of the Broadcasting Commission, citing difficulty to work due to alleged influence and power of Commission members. However, some members said no concerns had been shared with the Commission members regarding the allegations made by the employees in the petition.
