New Healthcare Waste Management facilities have been inaugurated at HDh. Vaikaradhoo Health Centre and HA. Atoll Hospital, marking a significant step toward improving environmental safety and infection control within the health sector.
The facility at Vaikaradhoo Health Centre was established under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Canadian Fund, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health.
The official inauguration ceremony was held yesterday in Vaikaradhoo. The facility was opened by State Minister of Health Khadheeja Abdul Samad Abdulla, WHO Representative Ms. Paeden, CEO of Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital Nazima Ali, Senior Political Director of Vaikaradhoo Health Centre Abdulla Nishan, and President of Vaikaradhoo Council Abdulla Zameer.
Meanwhile, the facility at HA. Atoll Hospital (Dhidhdhoo) was inaugurated by State Minister Khadheeja Abdul Samad Abdulla and WHO Representative Ms. Paeden.
These facilities aim to enhance the safe management of healthcare waste and encourage environmentally sustainable practices within health institutions.
Officials noted that the new systems will enable healthcare centers to safely dispose of used materials, prevent the spread of communicable diseases, eliminate harmful waste-burning practices, and minimize environmental impact, contributing to a cleaner and safer healthcare environment.
