Academic year begins with 74,000 students and with a total cost of 70 million Rufiyaa.
Education Ministry says that the government has invested 63 million Rufiyaa to renovate classrooms and build new facilities in many different schools across the Maldives.
In addition, 7 million Rufiyaa was spent on obtaining furniture for the schools. Furthermore, the ministry says that all the schools will have teachers and unless something unexpected happens, all schools will have the required number of teachers.
The ministry says that there will be more than 7000 permanent teachers and out of them 2000 are foreigners. “ Compared to last year the percentage of foreign teachers are less this year. Also in mid-2017 it will be less than that “ said an official of the ministry.
Government started building multi story school buildings to increase the capacity of schools. That project will also end by mid-2017.
