The government has opened applications for three new advisory committees that will guide national policy and development in key economic sectors: fisheries, tourism and construction.
According to the President’s Office, the committees are being established to provide technical expertise and sector‑specific consultation to the government. The three bodies are the Tourism Sector Advisory Committee, the Fisheries Sector Advisory Committee, and the Construction Sector Advisory Committee.
Tourism Sector Advisory Committee
The tourism committee will include:
one member from private‑sector tourism companies,
one scientific or technical expert in tourism, and
one representative from a civil society organisation linked to the industry.
Its mandate includes identifying obstacles to tourism growth, recommending policy reforms, aligning the sector with global trends, proposing investment incentive mechanisms, and advising on strategic partnerships.

It will advise on strengthening regulation of the construction sector and recommend investment incentive mechanisms to attract both domestic and foreign firms.
Applications opened on Sunday and will close at 12:00 on Monday afternoon. Forms can be submitted to the President’s Office between 08:30 and 12:00 noon, except on public holidays. Application forms are available at the reception of the President’s Office and can also be downloaded from its website.
Tourism remains the Maldives’ largest source of income, while fisheries and construction employ significant portions of the population, making these committees central to shaping future economic policy.
