Maldives Police Service has announced the arrest of four suspects from Male’ and Gaafu Alifu Atoll under ‘Operation Alimagu’, which was expanded to Gaafu Alifu Atoll this morning.
‘Operation Alimagu’ was launched last November.
The Police, on Sunday, announced that the Operation has been expanded to Gaafu Alifu Atoll, adding it will target major drug traffickers in the atoll who launder their illicit proceeds.
The Police detailed that the operation will involve raids on locations linked to suspected drug traffickers, carried out by special teams from South Police in coordination with Police Intelligence and the Drug Enforcement Department.
The Police noted that parts of the Operation will be conducted in capital Male’.

In an update on Sunday afternoon, the Police announced the arrests of four suspects and searched 10 houses. No further details were provided regarding the suspects, including their identity and the place of their arrest.
According to statistics disclosed by the authority in December, the Police have arrested a total of 202 people under Operation Alimagu. While 71 cases have been investigated as part of the operation, charges have been sought from the Prosecutor General’s Office in 34 of these cases.
Notably, Operation Alimagu has seen the arrest of 10 suspects from Addu City, of whom five are believed to be the ringleaders of one of the biggest drug networks operating in the city.
