The country is still at a standstill: former president Nasheed

Former president Mohamed Nasheed has said that it is evident in Addu City that the country is still at a standstill, where roadwork and sewerage projects have stopped even after the inauguration of the new government.
The former president made the statement at a local council election campaign for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Addu City last night.
“I came here today and I saw the harbours frozen. Sewerage work has been stopped. Roadwork has come to a halt. Work on health centers has stopped. Work on schools has stopped. The entire country is still at a standstill,” Nasheed said.
He said he had hoped for development projects to be continued once an elected government was in place, but said that he does not believe the projects will continue from the way events are unfolding. The cabinet is shared with the coalition, Nasheed said, and the president does not have power over his cabinet. This is equivalent to a nonexistent government, Nasheed said.
“The State of Maldives does not have a cabinet. The president does not have a cabinet. There is no government. A nonexistent government cannot bring development to the people,” the former president said.
President Yameen’s government, inaugurated in November, has called for companies interested in a number of ambitious projects, including the establishment of multi-specialty hospital in Hulhumale’, the construction of a bridge between Male’ and Hulhule’ and to build an airport in the industrial island of Lhaviyani Naifaru.
