Jumhooree Party to choose presidential candidate through primary

Jumhooree Party (JP)’s national steering committee has decided to choose its presidential candidate through a primary election.
The committee passed the resolution at its 115th meeting and will be proposing the amendment at the party’s third congress.
Naifaru MP Ahmed Mohamed said that the changes will make the party’s regulations will be more complete compared to other parties.
Noting that the JP leader automatically gets the party ticket according to the current JP rules, the MP said that the amendment will make it mandatory to elect a candidate through a primary, giving members the chance to contest.
The change will come into effect after it is approved at the party congress to be held on June 21 and 22.
