Attorney General Uz. Mohamed Anil will be meeting with the foreign lawyers team of former president Mohamed Nasheed، on behalf of the government، President’s Office said.
Meanwhile، member of Nasheed’s foreign lawyers’ team، Amal Clooney has arrived in Maldives yesterday، with Jared Genser to arrive tomorrow.
Nasheed’s Office informs that Amal and Jared arrived in Maldives to hold meetings with former President Nasheed’s lawyers and heads of the government، about the 13 year jail sentence on Nasheed on terror charges. Their trip is also in relation with the presentation of President Nasheed’s sentencing issue to U.N’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
According to Nasheed’s Office، Amal Clooney and Jared Genser will be working in Maldives until the 10th of this month.
They have now requested to meet with the government and head officials.
The international lawyers have requested to meet with President Yameen، Vice President Ahmed Adheeb، Home Minister Umar Naseer، Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon and PG Muhthaaz Muhsin.
Spokesperson at President’s Office، Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that Attorney General will meet with the lawyers team on behalf of the government.
Meanwhile، Nasheed’s 13 year prison sentence has been appealed at High Court، and the first hearing on the case has been tabled at the court for tomorrow.
